Some History and a Tour of the Meat Shop
From Smokehouse Roots to a Modern Abattoir
A Story of Craft, Community, and Carrying the Torch
Every great business has a beginning ~ and for CnC Enterprise Ltd., that beginning was built on smoke, patience, and a deep respect for quality.
The story starts with Earl Black, the founder of Blackie’s Meat Shop. What began as a small smoke shop quickly became known for expertly smoked meats, traditional methods, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Earl’s work laid the foundation not just for a business, but for a reputation ~ one rooted in trust, craftsmanship, and community.
That legacy was carried forward through his grandson, Troy Grant, who grew the operation and continued to refine the standards his grandfather set. Troy wasn’t just running a meat shop ~ he was stewarding a craft. Alongside him for 25 years was Corey (Grant), a cousin and trusted partner in the day-to-day work. Together, they built something far bigger than either of them could have achieved alone.
When Troy passed away on May 5, 2019, the loss was deeply felt ~ personally and professionally. But the need for this business, and the service it provided to the region, had never been greater. The operation had grown beyond what one person could manage, and Corey knew that stepping forward wasn’t just an option ~ it was a responsibility.
That’s where Chris (Wurgler) enters the story.
Chris and Corey were longtime friends, and when the time came to carry the business forward, that trust mattered. Chris brought with him a background in the mink industry, an environment where animal care, regulation, biosecurity, and operational discipline are non-negotiable. His experience translated naturally into the highly regulated world of licensed abattoirs ~ where precision, cleanliness, and process are everything.
Together, Corey and Chris formed CnC Enterprise Ltd. ~ a partnership built on complementary strengths, shared values, and a clear understanding that this business serves more than just customers. It serves farmers, families, and an entire local food system.
Today, what you’ll see in our facility reflects that journey.
This is not just a meat shop ~ it is a fully licensed, professional abattoir, designed to meet strict inspection standards while honouring traditional butchery skills. From clean, modern processing areas to carefully managed workflows, every detail exists for one reason: to ensure quality, safety, and respect for the product from start to finish.
As you tour our shop, you’re not just seeing equipment and rooms ~ you’re seeing decades of knowledge, hard decisions, and a commitment to doing right by both legacy and future.
CnC Enterprise Ltd. exists because the work matters.
Because the community needs it.
And because some traditions are worth protecting ~ even as they grow.
We’re proud of where we came from.
We’re confident in how we operate today.
And we’re committed to carrying this craft forward, the right way.
